This book is a bait-and-switch. It does contain some 5-star material on Dylan, but when it is more a memoir of Maymudes' life, it fails. And sadly, the most creative of Dylan's years (Bringing, Highway 61, Blonde) are left out. The intro about the home burning should not be in this book, nor should the painfully long recounting of Maymudes' time in the New Mexico real estate world. While Dylan is with the Band in 74 and then the Rolling Thunder tour, the reader is smoking pot with Maymudes and his girlfriends in New Mexico. At times an unfocused slog that could have been a much better book with a demanding, firm editor.
